Cumbria Fly Anglers

Dear All, A very peculiar weather pattern for May, whatever is going on with the climate of late? Endless east winds but lots of blossom everywhere, good hatches of fly life but not much coming up for them. We have seen a decent number of salmon go through the beats the first two weeks of May, they are going as far as Park Broom on the east side of Carlisle to where there is a gravel bar across the river and they are going no further in this low water. Just to add to the mellay, I have heard there are now two resident seals in that pool getting rather fat.  As we end the month of May, extremely low water levels are in effect and the water temperature increases, the forecast is to cool down every day the first week of June with some rainfall so that will definitely help matters and bring the salmon in.  There has been some decent numbers of sea trout coming in off the tides (see pic) which are being caught in the daytime on nymphs and small wets, a few have been caught along with the odd salmon. The last day of May and the river has seemed to have woken up at last with some good brown trout coming to nymphs, (see pic). The Cherrim lane has been resurfaced (again) this month, we supplied half the stone as did the Betts farm who laid it and it is in good shape now after the winter floods.  Very few mallard ducklings this year for some reason and saw the first kingfisher just today, even the swans are late.  Beaumont Parish Hall is looking rather nice, it has just been rebuilt and has a public loo as well everyone can use! (see pic). Unbelievable changes to the Willow Bed, the top half no need to wade to cover the lovely stream, we watched several salmon breaking the surface there yesterday, stand behind the log and cover the pool, (see pics). Please also find attached the tide chart for June, (add two hours and twenty minutes). Peter has continued to do a fantastic job of looking after the beat while I am a little incapacitated from doing heavy lifting, thanks for that!
Good luck in June everyone!
Kind regards, Glyn and Peter.
